Staff Accountant

Position Summary:

Indio Management is seeking a highly organized and detailed oriented Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Office! The position will be responsible for the day-to-day completion of assigned assets, preparing monthly close packages, advising accounts payable, as well as cash controls for the bank accounts associated with these assets.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor activity posting to the general ledger from automated subsystems

  • Prepare monthly journal entries to record additional activity at each property

  • Review general ledger for reclassifications and accruals

  • Analyze general ledger activity to ensure income and expense are recognized correctly

  • Complete bank reconciliations on a monthly basis and assist in research and adjustment in a timely manner

  • Manage capital escrows and complete and submit draws per terms of loan agreements

  • Review costs to determine expense vs. capital classification

  • Track capital expenditures & start-up costs

  • Prepare account reconciliations and adjust when necessary

  • Prepare property financial statement packet monthly by deadline

  • Participate in monthly financial review calls for each property

  • Monitor cash balances for properties

  • Distribution amounts quarterly

  • Prepare post-closing reconciliations for acquired properties

  • Review payables weekly

  • Provide accurate and timely financial information to other internal departments such as Investments and Asset Management, as well as lenders, consultants, etc. by established deadlines

  • Timely and accurately record payments, receipts, and closing entries

  • Assist with accounts payable and treasury management duties.

  • Analyze and post end-of-year audit adjusting entries.

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Competencies:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Accrual/GAAP accounting.

  • Experience in ResMan, Avid, or similar software.

  • Understanding of accrual accounting

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suites (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Must have the ability to develop, maintain, and foster relationships at the site level, as well as among the corporate office

  • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities

  • Must be analytical and able to perform intermediate to advanced math calculations

  • Ability to analyze basic operating statements and identify unusual operating trends, ratios, and variances, correcting where necessary

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, or general equivalent degree (GED)

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in multifamily property accounting, real estate/ private equity.

  • Experience with property accounting software in general and experience with ResMan and similar software.
